چکیده
For engineers and scientists, the pleasure of reading about ancient technology includes learning how our ancestors accomplished challenging technical tasks such as, for example, constructing massive structures or communicating over long distances. The latter subject has been explored wonderfully by Gerard Holzmann Björn Pehrson in their book titled The Early History Data Networks , which IEEE Computer Society published 1995. trace evolution communication from its simplest beginnings—think lighting a chain fires to signal victory Homer’s account Trojan War—through form telegraphy using optical semaphores that became fully developed around 1800. A great deal Pehrson’s treatment focuses on design codes translate visual patterns into useful information.

Quantum Curiosities of Psychophysics
I survey some of the connections between the metaphysics of the relation between mind and matter, and quantum theory’s measurement problem. After discussing the metaphysics, especially the correct formulation of physicalism, I argue that two state-reduction approaches to quantum theory’s measurement problem hold some surprises for philosophers’ discussions of physicalism. Though both approaches...
متن کاملCuriosities of REPINs and RAYTs
Repetitive extragenic palindromic (REP) sequences are a ubiquitous feature of bacterial genomes. Recent work shows that REPs are remnants of a larger mobile genetic element termed a REPIN. REPINs consists of two REP sequences in inverted orientation separated by a spacer region and are thought to be non-autonomous mobile genetic elements that exploit the transposase encoded by REP-Associated tY...

متن کاملCuriosities at c = − 2 Horst
Conformal field theory at c = −2 provides the simplest example of a theory with “logarithmic” operators. We examine in detail the (ξ, η) ghost system and Coulomb gas construction at c = −2 and show that, in contradistinction to minimal models, they can not be described in terms of conformal families of primary fields alone but necessarily contain reducible but indecomposable representations of ...
